For many years and especially this year, people have been torn away from each other based on their political views. The amount of violence throughout the years caused by politics is ridiculous. Believe it or not, violence caused because of politics has resulted in many deaths.
My opinion
Before this year, I never really had my own opinion on politics and I never thought about it because all of it seemed meaningless to me. However, in quarantine, I had a lot of time to think and reflect on everything happening in the world. I still don’t have an opinion on what party I belong to, but what is going on because of politics is outrageous. No one would have ever imagined the world turning upside down because of people who have different views. The problem with our world today is that people can’t try and understand one another.
A way I can explain this in an easier way is that people tend to put themselves in two boxes, and what I mean by that is being a Democrat or being a Republican. There is nothing wrong with saying that you´re a democrat or saying that you´re a republican, the problem comes in when people can’t be open to ideas outside of their ¨box.¨
No one realizes how much peace we could have in the world if we try to understand each other. The respect in today’s world has gone down drastically because no one could respect the fact that people have different opinions. America is a free country. Everyone has the right to have their own opinion. However, no one seems to be open to considering why they feel that way.
Protests
There have been thousands of protests throughout the years and not all of them have been peaceful. In November of 2016, there were many protests and riots against our newly elected President Donald Trump. In the article ¨Anti-Trump protests, some violent, erupt for 3rd-night nationwide¨ by Melanie Eversley, Aamer Madhani, and Rick Jervis, it says some of the things that happened after Trump’s election for example it says ¨About 4,000 protesters assembled downtown late Thursday chanting “we reject the president-elect!” the Associated Press reported. Some among the crowd vandalized 19 cars at a dealership in Northeast Portland.¨
This is just one of the examples of the violence that happened when Trump won. There were also buildings burned down, fires started, fights that broke out, and a lot more. The president should be treated with respect regardless of who it is. People are allowed to be upset if the person they want to win loses, but burning a building to the floor is not fixing anything. People got their business destroyed whether it was breaking windows or setting it on fire. We should all be working to make this country a better place, not making each-other the enemy.

Hey, Y’all remember the days when there was no “Republican and Democrat”? I’d love to go back to that.
